What has been done:

  1. Organized numerous fundraising events.
  2. Conducted a silent auction for art-work by young artists from El Camarón.
  3. Raised funds by selling handmade merchandise from Guatemala.
  4. Built a retaining wall to protect the school building from mountain mud slides.
  5. Remodeled the courtyard to provide a safe playing environment for children.

What’s brewing:

  1. Construction of additional classroom space in El Camarón to be completed in 2023.
  2. Acquisition of desks/other furniture for the school.
  3. Acquisition of computers and setting up a mini tech lab to provide internet access for local youth.
  4. Acquisition of fiction and non-fiction literature, textbooks, and other reading materials for a school library.

Our Partners:

GEA’s goal is to ensure community ownership of the project, including the involvement of local government actors and community organizations.

The mayor has promised that the municipal government will provide support to the project in a form of physical labor and oversight.
