WE ARE GEA:
Global Education Ambassadors (GEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, that is dedicated to improving education in the communities that need it most. At the moment, we are run and staffed entirely by a team of experienced and enthusiastic volunteers. As a relatively new organization, we are excited to be writing the first chapters of GEA’s story, learning and growing along with the young people we are working so hard to serve.
MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS:
GEA strives to promote equity worldwide by assisting underserved communities acquire the resources and infrastructure they need to help children receive a quality education, breaking the cycle of poverty and building a solid foundation for a promising future.
We envision a world where all children have an equal opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic background.
ORPHANS IN UKRAINE:
In the wake of the Russian invasion, thousands of orphans became refugees overnight in their own country. To respond to this crisis, in the summer of 2022, GEA team members traveled to an orphanage in Lviv, Ukraine to meet some new friends, ranging from 3 to 16 years old, who had been evacuated from war-torn parts of the country. To make their day-to-day lives better and bring smiles to their faces, we took excursions to a local dolphinarium and zoo. We also had an amazing time playing developmental games and employing enrichment activities with them.
A SCHOOL FOR INDIGENOUS CHILDREN IN GUATEMALA:
In August 2018, GEA traveled to El Camarón, Guatemala for the first time to meet with an inspiring group of young people and their teachers while assessing the needs of their small school on a hill. While in El Camarón, students taught us stories and rhymes from the village in their native Mayan language, Poqomam. They also gifted GEA’s team with paintings and shared stories about their everyday lives and dreams for the future. Since then, GEA has been supporting the school with structural improvement projects, and is currently collaborating with the local municipal government to build additional space for learning!
