Our Projects

Guatemala

Scope of Work – Part I (completed):

In August 2018, GEA traveled to El Camaron, a rural village in Guatemala, to evaluate the scope of the future project and to assess the needs of a local school. While in El Camaron, GEA gathered stories, tales, and rhymes from the village natives in Poqoman (Mayan language) and inspired students to paint their everyday life stories.

Currently, GEA is working on publishing a book with the materials gathered in El Camaron in order to preserve Poqoman language and to raise funds for the children’s and school needs.

While on the ground, GEA also assessed the scope of work for the potential next stage, which includes:

  • Providing water supply to the school
  • Providing access to internet
  • Assessing and estimating value for finishing construction of the new school.

Scope of Work – Part II (Fundraising – Work in Process):

  1. Donations from organizations and individuals.
  2. Organizing fundraising events.
  3. Silent auction to sell art work.
  4. Publishing of a book.
  5. Selling handmade merchandise from El Camaron.

Scope of Work – Part III:

In 2019 (exact date TBD) – GEA’s team and volunteers will travel to El Camaron (on their own expense) to participate in conclusion of the project, which consists of:

  1. Acquisition of computers (10) and building a tech lab.
  2. Acquisition of desks/other furniture.
  3. Acquisition of fiction and non-fiction literature, textbooks, and other reading materials; setting up a library.
  4. Remodeling court yard to provide a safe playing environment for children.

Vision of GEA is peaceful co-existence with local villagers. GEA’s goal is to ensure community’s ownership of the project, including involvement of local government, and other developmental bodies.

Mayor’s of San Luis, Carlos Pinto, promise: a local government will provide support to the project in a form of physical labor and oversight of the project.Learn More
